Itinerary

Sat 13 Jul

Independent arrival at the 4-star Best Western Lee Wood Hotel in Buxton. Set in its own mature gardens, this elegant Georgian hotel is situated only a few moments' walk from the centre of the town and the Opera House. Family-owned for over 50 years, the hotel offers high-quality accommodation and rosette-standard dining. Late-afternoon welcome drinks and canapés will be served in the hotel before walking to the Opera House for the evening performance.

Sun 14 Jul

This morning take a special walking tour of Buxton and discover the history and heritage of this majestic Spa town through the eyes of historic female characters portrayed by costumed guides. Based at the Old Hall, the stories of three strong, intelligent and dynastic women, Queen Elizabeth I, Mary Queen of Scots and Bess of Hardwick, are brought alive against a backdrop of politics, religion and tragedy. Then join Miss Seward who paints a picture of Georgian society as she reflects on her fellow guests in the Assembly Rooms, the social heart of 18th-century Buxton. Lunch at leisure before the matinee performance. Welcome dinner at the hotel in the evening.

Mon 15 Jul

Travel through the beautiful Peak District to Chatsworth House, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and considered by many the jewel of England’s country houses. Enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent Painted Hall, the regal State Rooms and Sculpture Gallery as well as the Devonshire Collection, a hugely significant art collection, encompassing Old Masters to contemporary works by Lucian Freud and Edmund de Waal. Return to Buxton for lunch at leisure. The visit to Chatsworth will set the scene for the evening’s performance of Georgiana, with music from 18th-century composers Mozart, Storace, Martyn y Soler and Thomas Linley. There will be a drinks reception with the cast after the performance.
