Itinerary

Sat 8 Jul

Afternoon arrival in Marseilles and transfer to Chateauneuf-le-Rouge (approx. 30 mins) to check in at the 4-star Hotel Mercure St Victoire, a charming and comfortable family-run hotel in the countryside just 15 minutes’ drive from Aix. Early welcome dinner in the hotel before the optional evening performance at the Théâtre de l’Archevêché.

Sun 9 Jul

Join your guide this morning for a walking tour of Aix-en-Provence’s Old Town with its shady streets lines with shops, fountains, architectural and religious sites. There will be some free time for independent exploration; we recommend a visit to Paul Cézanne’s studio. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant before the afternoon at leisure. An early dinner will be served at the hotel before transferring to the optional evening performance at the Théâtre Jeu de Parme.

Mon 10 Jul

The day is at leisure for your own independent exploration and relaxation. Dinner at the hotel before the optional evening performance at the Grand Théâtre de Provence.

Tue 11 Jul

Today we visit a local wine estate on the appellation of Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, Château Vignelaure. Set high in the hills, the vineyard has established a reputation as one of the finest wine producers in France. We take a guided tour of the cellars followed by a wine tasting and a provençal buffet lunch in the estate. We then continue to the regional park of the Luberon, to visit the villages of Bonnieux, Gordes and Roussillon. Return to the hotel for some free time before dinner at the hotel and the optional late evening performance at the Théâtre de l’Archevêché.

Wed 12 Jul

Morning at leisure and afternoon transfer to the airport for your homeward journey.

VISIT AIX-EN-PROVENCE WITH CAROL SAVAGE

A professional concert and opera singer, Carol regularly travels as a tour manager with us. She says:

“Beautiful Aix-en-Provence seems to have the best of everything! It has a delicious climate and a rich history; the walls Roman, the cathedral medieval, and the elegant Mazarin district eighteenth century. I have spent happy summers there, singing operas in the courtyard of the archbishop’s palace, and enjoying the rich musical and artistic atmosphere of the town. Good restaurants and cafes line the streets, and the local food is delicious. It is the perfect place to enjoy the pleasures of life!”
