Itinerary

Thu 13 Jul

Independent arrival at the superior 4-star Best Western Lee Wood Hotel. Set in its own mature gardens, this elegant Georgian hotel is situated only a few moments' walk from the centre of the town and the Opera House. Family-owned for 55 years, the hotel offers high quality accommodation and rosette standard dining. Late-afternoon welcome drinks and canapés will be served in the hotel before we walk to the early evening opera performance. After the opera we are invited onto the stage for drinks with the cast.

Fri 14 Jul

This morning we take a walking tour of Buxton, seeing the major sights of this lovely spa town. We hear about its history and heritage through the eyes of two historical characters portrayed by our guides; Edwardian actress Miss Lilian Bowdine will introduce the Opera House and Pavilion Arts Centre, and we then continue with Mr Milner, the landscape architect responsible for the design of the Pavilion Gardens. Tea and cake will be served during the tour. The afternoon is at free before the evening performance, after which we will attend a ‘Meet the Artists’ drinks reception in the Old Hall Hotel opposite the Opera House.

Sat 15 Jul

Join your guide this morning to visit Haddon Hall, one of the finest examples of a fortified medieval manor house in existence. We take a guided tour of the house and the gardens before some free time for independent exploration and lunch if required. Return to Buxton for the afternoon at leisure. Walk to the evening performance, after which we return to the hotel for a farewell dinner in the restaurant.
