Late afternoon arrival in Bucharest and transfer to the 5-star Radisson Blu, located within a short distance on foot to the ornate Romanian Athenauem, the city’s main concert hall. Welcome dinner in the hotel or a local restaurant.

Walking tour of the Old Town. Wander through the narrow streets and take in the mix of history, local culture, architecture and churches, particularly the 18th-century Stavropoleos monastery. The oldest landmark is the Old Court, the residence of medieval princes, including the notorious Vlad the Impaler. Lunch and early afternoon at leisure. The late afternoon’s concert programme is a blend of Romanian and Russian music. After the performance, there may be the possibility to meet the renowned Siberian violinist and conductor Maxim Vengerov.

Morning tour of Bucharest with its boulevards and curious blend of pre-war Art Nouveau grandeur and post-war brutalism that make for a unique and evocative aesthetic. Highlights include the gargantuan Parliament Palace, erected under the Ceausescu regime in the 1980s and the world’s second largest administrative building after the Pentagon. Head then to the shores of Herăstrău Lake and the National Village Museum, one of Europe’s oldest open-air museums. Lunch and the afternoon at leisure before a special recital by Sir Bryn Terfel.

Fri 13 Sep

Full day tour to the town and mountain resort of Sinaia. Visit the Art Nouveau splendour of Pelisor Castle and Peles, the world's first castle fully powered by locally-produced electricity. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant and there will also be a visit to the George Enescu Memorial House. Return to Bucharest for the evening concert.

Sat 14 Sep

Spend the morning at leisure before a farewell lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer to the airport for the evening flight home.
