Join your guide for a city tour of Moscow, including a visit to the magnificent Christ the Saviour Cathedral topped by copper domes. The Cathedral was designed by St Petersburg architect Konstantin Ton, who was also responsible for the Grand Kremlin Palace and the Kremlin Armoury. We walk across Red Square and visit the famous GUM department store with time for an independent lunch. Afternoon at leisure before the first early evening performance at the State Kremlin Palace Theatre.

Wed 27 Sep

Today we visit the Kremlin, the walled fortress dating back to the city’s founding in the 12th century. After touring the grounds we enter one of the cathedrals within the grounds and visit the Armoury which houses many of the imperial treasures, including several priceless Fabergè eggs. Afternoon and evening at leisure.

Full day excursion from the city centre to Kolomenskoe, a former summer residence for the Grand Dukes of Moscow and the Russian Tsars. We tour the estate, which is located in the southern part of Moscow, and visit the reconstructed wooden palace of Tsar Alexei, a beautiful example of Russian architecture of the XVII century. We return to the city for an independent lunch in the pedestrianised Arbat Street, followed by a tour of the richly decorated Metro stations on the way back to the hotel. Evening performance.

This morning we visit the Tretyakov Gallery to see its comprehensive collection of masterpieces of Russian art spanning the 11th to 20th centuries.
