Itinerary

Tue 30 Jun

Early afternoon arrival in Paris and transfer by coach (approx. 1.5 hours) to Versailles. Check in at the elegant 4-star Le Louis, a historic hotel that combines the contemporary with the classic, and is just steps away from the Palace of Versailles. There will be time to relax before welcome drinks and canapés in the hotel, followed by a short walk to the Palace for that evening’s opera performance.

Wed 1 Jul

Join your guide this morning for a walking tour of the city of Versailles. Often overlooked by visitors, this former de facto capital of the Kingdom of France - and reputed cradle of the French Revolution - is well worth a visit for its wide, tree-lined boulevards, octagonal squares (the first in France) and magnificent mansions. Lunch and the afternoon are at leisure with dinner that evening at Le Limousin, a classic French bistro in the heart of Versailles.

Thu 2 Jul

An opportunity this morning for an independent visit to the Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the greatest achievements in French 17th-century art and architecture. You will have the opportunity to explore the gilded interior, including the famous Hall of Mirrors, the gardens and the Grand Trianon, a place of retreat for the ‘Sun King’ Louis XIV. Lunch and the afternoon are at leisure, with the first recital that evening.

Fri 3 Jul

Travel this morning to the village of Giverny to visit the former home and famed garden of French impressionist painter Claude Monet, who lived and worked there from 1883 until his death in 1926. With an obvious passion for gardening, Monet conceived both his flower and water gardens as true works of art. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant before returning to Versailles and the evening recital.

Sat 4 Jul

Check out and transfer to Paris for your homeward journey on Eurostar.
