Itinerary

Sat 21 Dec

Late afternoon arrival in Ljubljana and transfer to the InterContinental, the city’s first 5-star hotel. Located in the heart of Ljubljana, it offers stunning panoramic views and is only a few steps away from the main attractions, including the opera house. Welcome dinner that evening in the hotel’s rooftop B-restaurant, known for its fine cuisine.

Sun 22 Dec

Join your guide this morning for a walking tour of Ljubljana. The main attractions include the beautifully-decorated Ljubljana Cathedral, the pedestrianised Old Town Road where some of the city’s finest medieval houses are located, and the Triple Bridge connecting the two sides of Ljubljana – the old and the new. Take the funicular to the imposing Ljubljana Castle and end your tour with lunch in a local restaurant. There will be a little time for you to relax before the late afternoon performance at the opera house. After the performance, dinner will be served at the hotel.

Mon 23 Dec

Depart this morning and travel north of the city to Lake Bled, one of the most picturesque and popular places in Slovenia. Take a traditional ‘Pletna’ boat to visit the fairy-tale Bled Island and marvel at the beauty of this crystal Alpine lake. There will be time to visit Bled Castle, the oldest castle in the country, before continuing to the nearby medieval town of “sweet” Radovljica, considered the capital of bee-keeping and chocolate. During the tour, lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Return to Ljubljana in time for the early evening opera performance.

Tue 24 Dec

Today is a full-day excursion starting at the breathtaking Postojna Caves. Climb aboard the cave train to reach the 'Beautiful Caves' and the amazing 5-metre tall stalagmite, the aptly-named ‘Brilliant’. After this visit, you will travel across the border to Trieste, Italy’s most diverse city with an eclectic mix of languages, religions and architecture - and reputedly the best coffee in the country! After lunch, there will be time to wander around the city before returning to Ljubljana for dinner that evening in a local restaurant.

Wed 25 Dec

Morning transfer (approx. 2 hours) to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, and check-in at the 5-star Esplanade Zagreb Hotel. Located in the heart of the city, this beautifully-designed hotel has been at the centre of Zagreb’s social life since it opened in 1925. After lunch in a local restaurant, spend the rest of the afternoon independently exploring the city. Stroll through the picturesque old town and soak up its winding streets, traditional cafés and Christmas atmosphere. That night there is a special Gala dinner at the hotel’s Zinfandel Restaurant, widely-regarded as the top restaurant in Croatia.
