Wed 27 May

Early afternoon arrival in Berlin and transfer by coach (approx. 2 hours) to the 4-star Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe in Dresden. Located on the historical Neumarkt next to the Frauenkirche, it is a short walking distance to many landmarks, including the Semperoper. Rest and relax before a welcome dinner that evening.

Thu 28 May

Join your guide this morning for a walking tour of Dresden, a city known for its art and unique architecture, including the reconstructed Church of Our Lady and the beautiful baroque Zwinger Palace. The tour will end with a guided visit to the rebuilt Frauenkirche where you will hear its impressive new organ. The afternoon is at leisure before the opera performance that evening.

Fri 29 May

The day starts with a further short sightseeing tour of Dresden whilst en route to the village of Graupa where Wagner composed his opera Lohengrin. After a guided tour of the Richard Wagner sites, there will be a short piano concert (to be confirmed nearer the time) at the Carl-Maria von Weber Museum, followed by a tour of the composer’s former home. Return to Dresden with time to rest before the evening’s opera performance.

Sat 30 May

A full day excursion outside of Dresden. Stop first at Glashütte for a guided tour of the German Watch Museum where you can observe skilled watchmakers at work. Independent lunch then transfer to Dippoldiswalde for a scenic ride on a steam train along the Weisseritz Valley Railway. Return to Dresden for your evening at leisure.

Sun 31 May

Join your guide again this morning for a visit to the Old Masters Picture Gallery (scheduled to reopen in December 2019) which houses masterpieces by great artists including Raphael, Rembrandt and Rubens. Lunch is in a local restaurant followed by the afternoon at leisure before the final performance that evening.

Mon 1 Jun

Transfer to Berlin for your homeward flight.
