Itinerary

Tue 4 Aug

Arrive early afternoon in Barcelona and transfer (approx. 1 hour 45 minutes) to the 4-star Hotel Pirineos in Figueres. This stylish hotel, located just a few minutes walk from from the Salvador Dalí Museum, is still run by the family who commissioned local architect Pelayo Martínez Paricio to design it in 1961. Spend the afternoon exploring the town before a welcome dinner that evening in a local restaurant.

Wed 5 Aug

A morning visit to the Dalí Museum, designed by the artist himself and considered to be his last great work. The museum contains over 1500 paintings, drawings, sculptures, engravings, holograms and photographs which serve to illustrate the captivating world of this unique surrealist. Lunch is at leisure after which you will transfer the short distance to Castell de Peralada for a visit to the museum which houses the most important glass collection in Spain. Dinner that evening will be in the Michelin-starred castle restaurant followed by the opera performance in the castle gardens.

Thu 6 Aug

Mid-morning departure to the picturesque town of Cadaqués, one of the most beautiful and unspoilt villages on the Mediterranean and a favourite spot for many painters, including Chagall, Magritte, Matisse and Picasso as well as Dalí, whose house you will visit in nearby Portlligat. Lunch is in a local restaurant before returning to the hotel. The evening’s opera recital will take place in the peaceful cloisters of Carmen Church within the walls of the Castell de Peralada.

Fri 7 Aug

A full-day excursion starts with a walking tour of Girona during which you will explore the history of this ancient city with its narrow streets, huge 15th-century cathedral, fascinating Jewish quarter and colourful façades. After an independent lunch, continue to the remarkably well-preserved medieval town of Besalú noted for its impressive 11th-century fortified bridge. Return to Figueres for the evening and dinner at leisure.
