Itinerary

Mon 29 Jun

Independent arrival at The Lygon Arms in Broadway, a charming and historic 4-star hotel in the heart of the golden-stoned Cotswolds. Enjoy time strolling around what is considered to be one of the loveliest villages in the country before a welcome dinner that night in the hotel’s Great Hall restaurant.

Tue 30 Jun

Travel by coach to Hidcote Manor Garden, created by the American horticulturist Lawrence Johnston in 1907. After a brief introductory talk, you will independently explore this beautiful Arts and Crafts garden which is divided by tall hedges and walls to create a series of outdoor rooms, each with its own special and unique character. Return to the hotel for lunch at leisure and a little time to rest. You will then meet Warwick Thompson, a writer, lecturer and critic who is passionate about communicating the pleasures of opera. Warwick will talk you through the background to Donizetti’s much-loved comedy The Elixir of Love, before departing to Longborough for what promises to be an exciting new production. During the interval, enjoy dinner in the Valley Marquee area with further time to discuss the opera with Warwick. Return by coach to the hotel.
