Itinerary

Sun 29 Nov

Early afternoon arrival in Paris and transfer to the 4-star Hôtel Westminster, located on the rue de la Paix. Named after the Duke of Westminster who resided in this sumptuous property in the 19th century, it is considered by many to be the Crown Jewel of authentic, historical Paris hotels. A welcome dinner and drinks will be served in the hotel that evening.

Mon 30 Nov

The day is free for you to explore and enjoy Paris before transferring by coach to the Opéra Bastille for that evening’s performance of Das Rheingold.

Tue 1 Dec

Join your guide this morning to discover the beautiful Palais Garnier. Built by the young French architect Charles Garnier, it was to be a symbol of the new Paris as envisioned by Emperor Napoleon III. Your tour guide will highlight the major performances and events that have taken place there since its inauguration in 1875 - with a special mention of Eric, the opera house’s famous phantom! The tour ends with lunch in a local restaurant after which the rest of the day is free for you to spend as you wish.

Wed 2 Dec

Another day at leisure in Paris before the transfer to the theatre for the early evening performance of Die Walküre.

Thu 3 Dec

This morning you will visit the Cité de la Musique. Set within the Philharmonie de Paris, this little-known museum houses an impressive collection of instruments from different eras, including Chopin’s piano. See also the Charlie Chaplin exhibition and make your way to the rooftop for a stunning view of Parc de la Villette and the Sacré Coeur de Montmartre. The tour will end with lunch in a local restaurant and the rest of the day at leisure.

Fri 4 Dec

The day is free for independent exploration of the city with the third opera, Siegfried, in the early evening.

Sat 5 Dec

Join your guide this morning for a coach tour of Paris based around the virtuoso pianist and composer Frédéric Chopin. Visits include the Church of the Madeleine, where Chopin’s funeral took place in 1849, and his much-visited tomb at the Père Lachaise cemetery. At the end of the tour, lunch will be served in a local restaurant. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Sun 6 Dec

Spend the morning as you wish before the matinée performance of the final opera of the cycle, Götterdämmerung. Dinner and the evening are at leisure.

Mon 7 Dec

Check-out and transfer to Gare du Nord for your homeward journey on Eurostar.
