Early afternoon arrival in Berlin and transfer by coach (approx. 2 hours) to the 4-star Westin Hotel in Leipzig’s city centre. Rest and relax before a welcome dinner at the hotel that evening.
Wed 15 Jan
Join your guide this morning for a walking tour of the city. Visits include the Thomaskirche where Wagner was baptised, the Nikolaikirche and the Bach Museum where you will discover the life and legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach and his hugely-talented musical family. Time to relax before the first opera, Das Rheingold, later that afternoon.
Thu 16 Jan
The morning is at leisure before a guided visit to the Richard Wagner Museum. Housed in his former school, the museum provides a detailed overview of the composer’s upbringing, education and early compositions. This is followed by lunch and some free time before the late afternoon performance of Die Walküre.
Fri 17 Jan
A full day excursion to Köthen where you will have a guided tour of the castle, including its ‘Hall of Mirrors’ (the former throne room) and the Bach Memorial which pays tribute to Bach’s contribution as Chapel Master of the Court of Köthen between 1717 and 1723. Lunch will be served at the end of the tour after which you will return to Leipzig and the evening at leisure.
Sat 18 Jan
The day is free for independent exploration of the city with the third opera, Siegfried, in the late afternoon.
Sun 19 Jan
Enjoy a delightful late morning concert at the Mendelssohn House, followed by a guided tour of the former home of Felix Mendelssohn, with exhibits highlighting the musical talents of this romantic composer and pianist and his equally-talented sister Fanny. Lunch is at a local restaurant with time to relax before the final opera of the cycle, Götterdämmerung.

Spend the morning at leisure, then transfer to Berlin for the flight home.
