Itinerary

Thu 9 Jul

Arrive early afternoon in Berlin, then transfer by coach to Leipzig (approx. 2 hours) and check in at the Seaside Park Hotel. This 4-star hotel abounds in art deco elegance and is in very close proximity to the opera house and the famous Church of St Nicholas. There will be a welcome dinner that evening in the hotel.

Fri 10 Jul

Spend the morning behind the scenes at the opera house and catch a glimpse of what is in store for you on stage over the weekend. Lunch is at leisure before a walking tour of Leipzig’s beautiful city centre. See the Market Square with its Old City Hall, St. Thomas Church and St. Nicholas Church as you follow in the footsteps of Bach, Telemann, Mendelssohn and Schumann, who are all inextricably linked with Leipzig. Return to the hotel with a little time to rest before walking the short distance to the opera house for the evening performance.

Sat 11 Jul

A full-day excursion to the city of Halle, the birthplace of Handel. It is also home to Halloren, the oldest chocolate factory in Germany. You can see the skilled chocolatiers in action, admire the chocolate gallery where almost everything is made from chocolate, and treat yourself to some of Halloren’s popular Kugeln. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant before a brief walking tour of the city’s historic centre. Return to Leipzig in time for the second Strauss opera of the tour.
