Thu 25 Jun
Independent arrival at the 4-star deluxe Audleys Wood Hotel, a handsome and comfortable country house hotel situated just outside Basingstoke. Welcome dinner that evening in the hotel.
Fri 26 Jun
A morning visit to nearby Chawton House. This 16th-century house is strongly associated with the author Jane Austen as it was owned by her brother Edward, and Jane was a frequent visitor. The house features many portraits of women writers, many of them famous in their day, as well as a changing display of works from the library’s unique collection of books by female authors. A few minutes’ walk away is the house where Jane Austen spent the last years of her life and there will be time to discover this small independent museum before returning to the hotel. Lunch is at leisure before transferring to The Grange for the early evening performance. During the long interval, dinner will be served in the faded grandeur of the historic mansion. After the performance there will be a drinks reception with Michael Chance and members of the cast.
Sat 27 Jun
Transfer this morning to Mottisfont Abbey, a romantic house set in beautiful riverside gardens. Its spacious art gallery features regularly changing art exhibitions, whilst the grounds are home to a spectacular rose garden and a collection of ancestral species with 19th-century rose cultivars. Return to the hotel for an independent lunch with a late afternoon transfer to The Grange for the final opera of the tour. This evening you will dine al fresco in the beautiful grounds of this heavenly Hampshire house.
