Fri 20 Aug

Late morning arrival in Munich and transfer to Salzburg by coach (approx. 2.5 hours) to check in at either the luxurious 5-star Hotel Bristol or the comfortable 4-star Hotel NH Salzburg City, both in the centre of the city. The rest of the day is free to relax and settle in. This evening a welcome dinner will be served in a local restaurant.

Sat 21 Aug

Join your guide this morning to visit highlights of Salzburg’s musical history, including the Mozarteum, the Landestheater, the Mirabell Palace and the Cathedral. We also visit the Salzburg Museum for their exhibition devoted to the Centennial of Salzburg Summer Festival, which celebrated its inaugural performance on 22 August 1920. Here you can explore the rich history and heritage of the festival and its artists. Late afternoon performance at the Haus für Mozart, followed by an evening at leisure.

The day is free for independent exploration of the city. In the evening walk to the Grosses Festspielhaus for the performance of La Damnation de Faust.

Mon 23 Aug

Today we journey from Salzburg into the scenic Salzkammergut, the Alpine region of lakes and mountains to the east of the city, which has inspired many an operetta melody. We pass through St Gilgen and visit the spa town of Bad Ischl where we take a guided tour of the Kaiservilla, summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known as Sisi. Lunch will then be served in a local restaurant before returning to Salzburg for the evening performance.

Wed 25 Aug

This morning we will take a guided tour of special exhibition “Music everywhere” which focuses on Salzburg’s great musical tradition and is located in the historic DomQuartier, which encompasses the palatial halls of the Residenz along with the cathedral area. The tour will be followed by a farewell lunch at the oldest restaurant in Salzburg. In the evening walk to the final performance at the Haus für Mozart.
